We use many kinds of maps today, each designed to get information in a particular way. Meteorologists use weather maps to describe weather conditions to an audience on television or in the local newspaper. Boaters use marine maps to navigate through unfamiliar waters and to avoid shallow water and other obstacles. Pilots use special maps to plot and file flight plans between airports. Tourists use museum maps to find the attractions and exhibits in which they are interested. This series describes and illustrates the many and varied uses of maps and also presents information about the GPS (Global Positioning System).
