Crafts Around the Earth visits the habitats of the world and helps plant the seeds of creativity. Each program covers a different location, such as the Outback, rain forests and deserts, and explores the products, landscape, wildlife and people of the area through five different crafts. Specific curriculum skills are stressed, including factual information about the habitat and mathematical skills such as measuring. A generic supply list is followed by a demonstration of the actual steps. All projects use easily-found general craft materials and recycled items. Teachers are encouraged to substitute available supplies or limit the items used. Designs for the program were chosen based on minimal cost per student, the open-ended nature of design, ability for creative input from each child and minimal set-up time. A 112-page teachers guide accompanies the series.
