8:30AM Sesame Street

Monday, Aug. 23
"Baby Bear Cant Get Curly to Fall Asleep" Baby Bear is taking care of his little sister, Curly Bear, for her naptime today! Baby Bear usually puts Curly right to sleep by giving her a little blanket and her favorite doll, then reading her a fun book called "Find the Bears." But today, Baby Bear is shocked because his fool-proof napping system doesnt seem to be working! Baby Bear thinks maybe he just needs to read the book again, but that doesnt work. Then, Baby Bear figures out a Plan B- to beg Curly Bear to fall asleep, but that doesnt work either! Maria suggests singing her a Spanish lullaby, but Curly is still wide awake. The Fairy Napmothers sparkly magic fairy dust doesnt seem to help Curly Bear fall asleep either. All of a sudden, Oscar the Grouch offers to help Baby Bear put Curly to sleep as long as they stop all the cutesy nap talk. Oscar then creates as much grouchy noise as possible with jackhammers, goats tap dancing, and drums. To Baby Bears surprise, all this loud noise has finally put Curly Bear to sleep! Theme: Social Interactions and Reasoning. Letter V. Number 8.

Tuesday, Aug. 24
"Miles Band Needs a Quiet Place to Practice" Miles and his band members are having a hard time finding a quiet place to practice. Their practice first gets disrupted by nursery rhyme characters, then Elmo, who wants to tell everyone the letter of the day, and then Zoe, who comes in with the number of the day! Miles decides that in order to keep practicing, maybe it would be best for them to find another place to practice. Oscar offers his trashcan as a place for them to practice, but Miles thinks that this may not be the best place since theres already another band playing there. Finally, Gordon has a great idea for the band to practice up on the roof, which turns out to be the perfect place! All this practice seems to pay off at the end as Miles and his band perform a great song about Sesame Street for everyone. Theme: Coping w/ Emotions. Letter W. Number 5.

Wednesday, Aug. 25
"Elmos Fairy Godperson Grants His Wish to be a Bird" After seeing how much fun Big Bird is having while fluffing his feathers, Elmo wishes that he was a feathery bird, too. All of a sudden Elmos Fairy Godperson appears, and grants him his wish! Elmo turns into a bird with wings for flapping and a beak for pecking. He can even fly and chirp like a bird! Big Bird and Elmo-Bird have a great time doing bird things together, and even go to a Birdketeer meeting. While Big Bird thinks that this is all wonderful, hes beginning to think that if Elmo-Bird is going to be a bird forever, hell miss his furry monster friend, Elmo. Elmo also realizes that he misses being himself and wants to be Elmo again. Big Bird calls on the Fairy Godperson, who changes Elmo back into his furry monster self. Big Bird is happy to have his friend back, and Elmo is happy to be a monster again, too. Theme: Misc. Letter X. Number 2.

Thursday, Aug. 26
"Rosita Wishes She Didnt Have an Accent" Two kids ask Big Bird and Rosita for directions to the park. Rosita helps them by telling them that they should just look for the statue with all the pigeons. She pronounces pigeons as "pee-chins" because of her accent. The two kids think that the way Rosita pronounces pigeons is funny and laugh at her as they walk off. Rosita begins to feel sad and embarrassed by her accent, and explains that she sounds this way because she is from Mexico and she cant help the way she talks. Rosita then tries to get rid of her accent in order to speak like everyone else, but since she cant, she decides that she would rather not speak at all. Big Bird, Gabi and Miles try to tell her that they love the way she speaks, and that everyone has a unique voice and way of speaking. They also sing a song called "Music of the Street" to show Rosita that these unique differences are what makes up the beauty of the street! In the end, not only does Rosita realize that she should be proud of her accent, but she also teaches the two kids a couple words in Spanish! Theme: Coping w/ Emotions and Literacy. Letter Y. Number 7.

Friday, Aug. 27
"Big Bad Wolf Huffs and Puffs When He Loses" Big Bad Wolf huffs and puffs every time he loses a game! First, Big Bad is so upset after losing a game of chess to Alan that he huffs and puffs and blows the game away. Big Bad tries to regain control and apologizes to Alan, telling him that when he is really disappointed, he has to huff and puff. Then, after striking out in a baseball game with Elmo, Gordon, and Zoe, Big Bad huffs and puffs and blows them away. Gordon explains that its only a game, and Elmo also tries to comfort Big Bad by telling him that Elmo strikes out all the time, too. Next, Big Bad even huffs and puffs and blows Big Bird and Radar away after losing a guessing game. Finally, Elmo, Zoe, and Big Bird, adamantly refuse to allow Big Bad to play basketball with them. They all tell him that they dont like being huffed and puffed. Then, they sing a song called "You Cant Win Em All" to show Big Bad that the fun is in the game and that nobody can win all the time. Alan tells Big Bad that its okay to feel disappointed when losing, but its not okay to huff and puff, which ruins everyones fun. Big Bad understands and says that next time, even if he is disappointed after losing, he will try not to huff and puff. Theme: Coping w/ Emotions. Letter Z. Number 11.

1:00PM Mister Rogers' Neighborhood

Monday, Aug. 23
Growing: Children are often concerned about how long it takes to be grownup, and it can help them to know how much they can do, even as children. Mister Rogers shows a videotape about how people make toy cars; playing with toy things can help children get ready for real grown up things in the future. In the Neighborhood of Make-Believe, there's news of a mysterious big thing rolling in from Westwood.

Tuesday, Aug. 24
Growing: What helps things grow? Mister Rogers visits a conservatory to see the rich variety of plants there and learns what helps plants and flowers grow. Planting a bean seed, he talks about how long it takes for a plant to grow.

Wednesday, Aug. 25
Growing: Mister Rogers talks about children growing to be adults. To illustrate that concept, he brings a cat and shows a videotape of an earlier visit, when it was a kitten. The big thing appears in the Neighborhood of Make-Believe, but it doesn't respond much.

Thursday, Aug. 26
Growing: Mister Rogers gets a haircut and helps children know that it doesn't hurt to have hair cut and that the barber cuts only hair.

Friday, Aug. 27
Growing: Jack in the box, Peek a boo, and Hide and Seek are all children's games about going away and coming back. An old friend, Franois Clemmons, comes back with the Harlem Spiritual Ensemble a singing group he directs.
