Get ready for our multimedia fall season!
by David Benson, Educational Technology Consultant ()
A good suspenseful television show will always end the season with a cliffhanger guaranteed to bring the viewers back in the fall. Who among us will ever forget the now-infamous "Who shot J.R.?" season-ender from the popular nighttime soap opera Dallas? That one had people talking all summer long.
Well our season-ender won't be as dramatic as a television series, but we're certain that come next fall you'll want to take a look at what we've got to offer.
Coming to a classroom close to you (or maybe even in your classroom) PBS 45 & 49 is proud to announce four new educational productions. Jam-packed full of content, keyed to the standards, these productions will teach and enliven those lessons they have been designed to illustrate.
See the amazing: It's a Gas! Math & Science of the Blimp
Tune in as two students go about doing a video project for a school contest. Watch while we follow their adventures as they confront math and science problems in the process of making their video project. Eleven video programs are part of the series along with an extensive teachers guide, a CD-ROM of activities and a DVD that includes all the programs and more. All lessons are keyed to Ohio standards.
Stay tuned to see the stunning: Sharing Performing Arts
This series of ten video programs revolves around the art of theater. All the aspects of theatrical production are discussed, from onstage actors to set design to the myriad of other jobs necessary to pull off a theatrical production. Actors and crew members from The Broadway Series at E.J. Thomas Performing Arts Hall demonstrate their craft, and local high school students show how they bring craft into their own productions.
The multimedia package will include a teachers guide and a Web site. All lessons are keyed to Ohio's Fine Arts standards.
Real must-see TV: One State, Many Nations: Native Americans in Ohio
This program takes a look at the Native Americans of Ohio and the rich cultural and historical heritage they have to offer. While each Nation (Tribe) is unique, they all share the common characteristics of language, environment, housing, food, tools, transportation, clothing, games, music and dance. The package includes five videos: Prehistoric Native Americans, Historic Native American Culture, The Spiritual Life of Native Americans, The Removal and Modern Native Americans. We're developing a teachers guide and an extensive Web site. All lessons are keyed to Ohio standards.
We're tossing in: 108 Stitches: Physics in Baseball
This series of four videos uses baseball to demonstrate some of the basic principles of physics. Highlighting one of the Cleveland Indians farm teams, the Kinston Indians, the series' individual program titles include The Pitch, The Hit, The Run and The Flight of The Ball as starting points to demonstrate how much physics really impacts America's favorite pastime. Look for a teachers guide and an extensive Web site to support the videos, all keyed to Ohio standards.
