Take a Good Look at Mars!
The first of NASA's twin Mars Exploration Rovers, Spirit, landed on the Red Planet on Jan. 3. On Friday, Feb. 13 at 10 am, PBS 45 & 49 will broadcast Passport to Knowledge: First Look, originating from NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California, and the Houston Museum of Natural Science in Texas.
Hosted by Bill Nye, this special features some of the leading scientists and engineers who built and now operate Spirit and its twin, Opportunity, including NASA's Director of Solar System Exploration, Orlando Figueroa. Your students will get a fascinating first look at images and science data just in from Mars.
Some of the scientists and engineers behind the successful landing of NASA's Spirit spacecraft on Mars will describe the rover's first days on the Red Planet, share amazing new images and respond to questions from young people at the Houston Museum of Natural Science.
Also featured in the program are documentary reports showing events surrounding Spirit's risky touchdown and the slow and careful process of getting safely off the lander to begin the exploration of the Martian surface.
You can go to the Passport to Knowledge Web site at http://passporttoknowledge.com/mars to find more information about the First Look broadcast.
