Description: Discover the fundamentals of the age-old art of quilting in this special three-hour session. If you’ve been wanting to try quilting, but you’re not sure what it’s all about, this is the workshop for you! You'll be introduced to rotary cutting, piecing, quilt sandwich and binding. We will make a decorative mini-wall hanging with hand-quilted applique and frayed edges — a fun new craze! Popular tools will also be available for you to try as well as a variety of books and quilt samples for browsing. Your workshop kit includes fabric, batting, needle, thread and how-to instruction sheets. Come try this great no-fail project and leave with new skills to pursue your own creative expressions in needle, thread and fabric!
Meet Jane Weiss
Jane Weiss is an accomplished quilting, photo transfer and photo album making educator. Her background combines a B.S. in Home Economics Education from Purdue University with over 20 years in the sewing and notions industry as a corporate merchandise buyer for JoAnn Stores, Inc. After the birth of her third child in 2000, she left the corporate world to spend precious time with her family and to develop her own freelance educational and consulting business, Custom Creations.
Jane loves to teach quilting and has a real talent (and patience!) to help beginners get started. She believes that quilting is an art form that has room for everyone, from detail-oriented quilters to those looking for an easy, time-efficient project. Quilting tools and methods are so varied that all can achieve a great sense of accomplishment!
Photo quilts and photo preservation are also passions of Jane's. She enjoys helping people create their own photo treasures so that personal stories, family ancestry and folklore and special events may be shared in a meaningful and long-lasting way.
