Meet Beth Wheeler
Beth Wheeler learned to embroider at age 5, crochet at age 6, made her first necklace of painted macaroni at age 6, and whined until her mother taught her to sew on the Singer Featherweight at age 7. Since that time, she has embarked on an adventure of personal study in design and color. For the last 15 years, she has been a full-time designer, developing signature techniques for which her company, Muttonhead, has come to be known.

She began Beth Wheeler Creative Services in 1993 and the Muttonhead line of patterns, kits, books and CDs branched off in 1998 with the goal of earning $25 a month to set aside for an education fund for beloved godson, Ryan Marquette. Muttonhead has been blessed many times over in reaching those goals and reaching out to children through quilting and crafts.

Beth speaks to adult and children's groups about balancing the demands of life as a self-employed person. The nine-person Muttonhead team presently has more than 300 articles, designs, kits and 37 books for quilting, sewing and crafting audiences in publication.

She is a member of the Society of Craft Designers, currently serving on its Board of Directors, a member of Hobby Industries Association, American Crafts and Creative Industries, the American Craft Council and a recent past member of the Board of Directors of the Virginia Quilt Museum.

She lives with husband, Geoff, and Scottish terrier, Kippy, near Washington D.C. in a three-story townhouse happily crowded with fabric, books, supplies and projects in progress.
