TechKnowledgy Newsletter

Just to Thank You

by David Benson, Educational Technology Consultant ()

I was sitting at my desk again struggling to find an idea for the article I write every month in the TechKnowledgy Newsletter. You know, I guess I really don't have it all that bad -- some people have to write an article everyday for a daily newspaper. For some it's just a weekly occurrence but for me, it's only once a month and yet I still find myself putting something together right at the deadline and hoping that I've hit upon the right idea or the right words.

Usually when I sit to write these articles I tell a tale of something that has happened to me and I try to relate it to the every day situations educators have to deal with, or I try to tie together something related to the theme of the newsletter. But when I looked back since the last newsletter most of my days were spent preparing for teacher-related events -- and that goes double for my colleagues. So the next step was to try to relate to the month of November.

Ah, November. The month of Thanksgiving (although I believe the pilgrims held the first real Thanksgiving in October at the end of the harvest. I guess jump-starting the Christmas shopping season wasn't a real concern of theirs back then). But writing about Thanksgiving and trying to tie into it seemed to be just a little too trite and besides, this article is supposed to serve as a boost for our educators/readers.

Then it hit me. I do want to give thanks, or rather, I want to say thank you. I want to say thank you to all the teachers out there who read our newsletter, take part in our professional development workshops and work tirelessly to help our kids. And I want to say thank you to all the educators who have supported us over the years, who have become friends and colleagues, or have served as mentors. It's really because of you that we exist and I just wanted to say thank you.

That's all, just thank you.
