Ama-Zone! wins Emmy Award!

This summer, PBS 45 & 49's Department of Educational Services brought home a Cleveland regional Emmy Award for Ama-Zone! The Rain Forest Project in the "Children/Youth Programs Specials" category.

Ama-Zone! The Rain Forest Project, PBS 45 & 49's multimedia learning package and one-hour prime time television special, is built around study of the Amazon rain forest. The primetime broadcast shows how science, math, literacy, social studies and even the arts converge in one learning module. The ITV series takes viewers deep into the Peruvian jungle, high above the forest floor and into the middle of local classrooms to show viewers how the project works.

Recognized for their work on the project were Steve Mitchell, executive producer and retired director of the department; Ria Mastromatteo, project coordinator; Rebecca Nassar, educational consultant; Dirk Fischer, producer/editor; Eileen Moushey, freelance writer; and Michael O'Connell, freelance videographer.

To find out more about using Ama-Zone! in your classroom, see the An Emmy Award-Winning Rain Forest Unit! page of this newsletter or check out our web site.
