PBS 45 & 49 to expand college credit offerings this fall

Beginning in Fall 2003, PBS 45 & 49's Department of Educational Services will expand its offerings of graduate school credit hours through participating local Colleges of Continuing Studies.

In a course called Technology in the Classroom, PBS 45 & 49 will be able to grant one to two graduate-level credit hours to educators who enroll in a series of technology workshops spread out over the entire academic year. This series of sessions is designed to instruct teachers and administrators in the use of educational technologies for the classroom and will help to improve teaching.

Students will register for the course through one of the participating universities and attend a series of workshops that equals 15 contact hours for one credit hour and 30 contact hours for two credit hours. Sessions will be presented on different dates, on different topics and at different locations and will vary in length from two to six hours. Course selections will include Palm Handheld Computers, Using Digital Still Cameras in the Classroom, Building Your First Web Pages, Inspiration and/or Kidspiration, PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Electronic Portfolios, TimeLiner, WebQuests, Teaching Media Literacy and Critical Viewing Skills, Scanners, Integrating Technology Into the Curriculum, Digital Cameras, PhotoShop Elements, and iMovie.

The course objectives are to help educators learn basic skills for the use of many technologies; incorporate these technologies into their classroom teaching; and participate in discussions about technology use in the classroom.
