Nature: The Reptiles

Airdate: Sundays at 7 pm in February
Educator Rights: 1 Year
Web: http://www.pbs.org/wnet/nature

Some are amusing; others are terrifying. They slither, swim, walk and crawl, leap and lunge, and some spend their entire lives contained under a shell. Their ranks include the most skillful predators on Earth. And their long-departed dinosaur ancestors are an unending source of fascination to humanity.

They are The Reptiles, the fascinating subjects of a four-part miniseries premiering on Nature.

Alligators and Crocodiles
Sunday, Feb. 2 at 7 pm
With guidance from leading experts on crocodile and alligator behavior, viewers discover that the world of these creatures is a lot more complex than anyone imagined.

Snakes
Sunday, Feb. 9 at 7 pm
The miniseries continues with a look at the reptiles that people fear most, perhaps because it seems no animal is more different from humans. Maybe that's why this most recent arrival in the reptile family has had more research done on its life than any of the others.

Turtles and Tortoises
Sunday, Feb. 16 at 7 pm
A turtle's shell is among the most peculiar but successful pieces of design of the natural world. Unchanged for 200 million years, it has allowed turtles, which include tortoises and terrapins, to populate almost everywhere in the world.

Lizards
Sunday, Feb. 23 at 7 pm
The miniseries concludes with the most extraordinarily diverse of all reptiles.
