Happy Trails

by David Benson, Educational Technology Consultant

With the end of the school year just a few short weeks away, I am reminded of the old Dale Evans song, "Happy Trails." Now you're probably saying to yourself, but wait, didn't Roy Rogers write that song? No, it was written by Dale Evans for Roy Rogers. Roy just sang it that's something I found on the Internet.

But I suppose what I'm really getting at is that we tend to think things aren't always what they appear to be, are they? But that's just some old chestnut we dig up whenever we start to get nostalgic.

As I look at it, the year started off with a lot of promise and I'm hoping for all of you that it ends the same way. Along the path we sure hit a lot of rocky ground. For the first time in the living memory of many of us we experienced a foreign attack of such tremendous magnitude on our own soil and the subsequent residual effects. We watched the promise of high-flying industries and the disappointment that followed in the wake of their reality. And somewhere along the way we all managed to hang together as a country, a community and a school.

I guess that when we started the year talking about bringing the world into your classroom, we didn't really expect the world to have so much to offer. But it did and we learned to take advantage of the opportunities presented to us to learn about diversity and diligence and tenacity and pride in our work and maybe a little bit about kite-flying, too.

Okay, I'm probably getting a little weepy here. What I really want to say is that it's been a rollercoaster of a year and the break is almost upon us. I hope you all can take advantage of the time off and until we meet again Happy Trails to you.
