ITV and the 2002-03 School Year
This is the time of year when we begin pulling together the next school year's Instructional Television schedule, and in an attempt to make ITV more useful to our educators we're instituting changes to the ITV schedule. Beginning in the Fall 2002 school year we plan to introduce new ideas to Instructional Television to make it more useful to educators than it has ever been.
We will continue to run both a daytime schedule and a block feed schedule as we have in the past but with some variations to the schedules. Most notable will be the increase in the block feed schedule.
Historically, the stations have run two hours of ITV during the day (10 am to 11 am and 1 pm to 2 pm) with a 4 am-to-6 am block feed schedule that starts in mid-September and ends mid-March. Our new plan is to start block feeding the middle of September and continue until the end of May, effectively adding eight weeks to the block feed schedule. Our daytime ITV schedule will be cut back to the 10 am-to-11 am time slot with a focus on primary programming.
With all the new technologies available to schools, some educators don't appreciate ITV the way they used to. However, the power of ITV is that it can take students to places they could not otherwise visit and introduce them to people they would not otherwise encounter. We hope you'll reconsider ITV's usefulness in your classroom.
